SITWEI launches Super Star Light Level Series 4MP Image Sensor SC485SL

On October 23, 2024, Shanghai, China - SITWEI (Shanghai) Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. (stock abbreviation: SITWEI, stock code: 688213) launched the Star Light (SL) Series ultra star light level series 4MP image sensor - SC485SL. As a back illuminated image sensor with a large target size of 1/1.8 inches, this new product is based on the SmartClarity from STMicroelectronics- Crafted with 3 technological processes, equipped with Lightbox IR SmartAOV?  With advanced technologies such as 2.0, it has the advantages of high sensitivity, high dynamic range, low noise, high temperature imaging stability, and ultra-low power consumption, and supports full-time recording (AOV) function. With excellent imaging performance, it helps the iterative upgrade of intelligent security applications such as AI black light full-color cameras.




SmartAOV technology upgrades again, achieving excellent image quality output

As the first image sensor equipped with SmartAOV 2.0 technology, the SC485SL supports AOV (Always On Video) function. When triggered by an event, the SC485SL achieves rapid wake-up and recording at a regular frame rate of 30fps through built-in functions such as AEC (automatic exposure control), AGC (automatic gain control), and AWB (automatic white balance); When there are no event triggers, the SC485SL can continuously record at a ultra-low frame rate of 1 frame per second in a low-power state, achieving 24/7 video recording.


It is worth mentioning that SmartAOV 2.0 technology has the following upgrade highlights compared to its predecessor technology:

Enhanced image processing effect: The built-in AWB (Automatic White Balance) function of CIS has been increased to 16x gain, which can cover a wider range of color temperatures to achieve better image color reproduction effect.

Fast start time optimization: By reducing the number of I2C configurations, the image transmission time of CIS is further shortened, thereby accelerating its startup process.

Support Interrupt Mode: CIS sends corresponding reminder level signals to the main control SoC chip upon completion of startup, which is very friendly to the main control SoC chip compared to the traditional reconnaissance mode (where the main control SoC chip needs to read registers to obtain CIS startup status information).


Supported by Lightbox IR and other technologies, creating a new night vision full-color experience

Intelligent security applications such as AI black light full-color cameras, equipped with advanced technologies such as AI ISP, have successfully achieved full-color image output in extremely dark or low light environments, similar to daylight. At the same time, this places more stringent requirements on the sensitivity and imaging performance of image sensors. SC485SL is equipped with Lightbox IR? With multiple high dynamic range (HDR) technologies and advantages such as high sensitivity, high dynamic range, and low noise, it can provide clear and accurate images for cameras.


High sensitivity

The new product SC485SL is designed based on a back illuminated pixel architecture and adopts the STMicroelectronics SFC Pixel? Patent technology and Lightbox IR? Near infrared enhancement technology has achieved excellent photosensitive performance in both visible and near-infrared bands. Compared to previous generation technology products, the SC485SL has increased quantum efficiency (QE) by about 15% in the visible light band at 520nm, and its QE in the 850nm and 940nm bands has increased by about 1 and 1.6 times respectively. It can provide clear, bright, and low-noise images for cameras even in dark environments.

SC485SL supports two correlated multiple sampling (CMS) modes, CMS2 and CMS4, as well as a 12 bit quantization mode, which can effectively reduce read noise and improve dynamic range. Compared to previous generation technology products, the SC485SL has reduced read noise (RN) and light response non-uniformity (PRNU) by approximately 38% and 10%, respectively. At the same time, the new product has excellent SNR1s value, which is about 39% lower than the previous generation technology products. Therefore, in low light scenarios such as outdoor activities and underground parking lots at night, the SC485SL can still provide the camera with delicate, clear, and accurate image quality.

High Dynamic Range (HDR)

SC485SL supports single frame exposure ColGain HDR There are three modes of 2-frame exposure line overlapping HDR (2-exposure SHDR) and up to 120dB 3-frame exposure line overlapping HDR (3-exposure SHDR), which can effectively preserve light and dark details and suppress motion ghosting, bringing clear and detailed images to the camera. At the same time, multiple HDR modes also provide customers with more flexible choices for camera solution configuration.


High temperature imaging and ultra-low power consumption, worry free continuous long-term shooting

Thanks to the advanced SmartClarity technology from Skyway- SC485SL has excellent performance in high-temperature imaging with 3 process technologies. Under high temperature conditions of 80 ℃, the dark current and white pixel of SC485SL are significantly reduced by about 73% and 40% respectively compared to similar Stacked BSI products in the industry. Even in the face of outdoor high temperature interference, it can still provide clear, accurate, and color realistic images.





In addition, SC485SL achieves industry-leading ultra-low power performance through precise control design of internal circuit modules. SC485SL supports three output frame rate modes: 30fps/60fps/90fps, with typical power consumption as low as below 300mW (90fps) and below 210mW (60fps), respectively, helping to reduce the overall power consumption of the camera.






SC485SL has currently accepted samples and will achieve mass production in Q4 2024.
