Toshiba launches small package car mounted optical relay with an output withstand voltage of 900 V

Post on Jan 01,1970

Shanghai, China, October 24, 2024- Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Devices Co., Ltd. ("Toshiba") announced today the latest launch of a car mounted optical relay [1] with an output withstand voltage of 900 V (minimum value) - TLX9150M, which is packaged in a small SO12L-T package and is very suitable for 400 V car battery applications. We have started bulk supply now.

Electric vehicles (EVs) require the use of higher capacity, higher voltage batteries to extend range and shorten charging time, and real-time monitoring and management of batteries through a battery management system (BMS) to maximize lifespan and improve performance. In addition, BMS also monitors the insulation between the battery and the vehicle body to ensure safety. In BMS systems that must deal with high voltage, optical relays are often used to provide electrical isolation.

The withstand voltage supported by the photoelectric relay used in battery systems usually needs to be twice the system voltage, that is, for a 400V system, the output withstand voltage of the photoelectric relay needs to be greater than 800V. The TLX9150M is suitable for 400V systems due to its 900V output withstand voltage. In addition, the TLX9150M also adopts the latest SO12L-T package, which is 25% smaller than the Toshiba SO16L-T package [2]. This improvement not only contributes to the miniaturization of battery cells, but also reduces overall costs. At the same time, the pin spacing and pin layout of this package are the same as those of SO16L-T (as shown in Figure 1), which can achieve universal circuit board pad design.

Application:

Vehicle mounted equipment

-Battery management system: battery voltage monitoring, mechanical relay adhesion detection, grounding fault detection, etc

-Replace mechanical relay

characteristic:

-Output withstand voltage: VOFF=900 V (minimum value)

-Normally Open (1-Form-A) Device

-Avalanche current rating: IAV=0.6 mA

-Isolation high voltage: 5000 Vrms (minimum)

-Passed AEC-Q101 certification

-Compliant with IEC 60664-1 international standard

Main specifications:

Note:

[1] In optical relays, electrical isolation is achieved between the primary (control) side and the secondary (switch) side. Through insulation isolation barriers, switches directly connected to AC lines and switches between devices with different grounding potentials can be controlled.
